THE WALL

(Berlin Wall 1961-1989)

It would stand a thousand years,
they said.
A millennia of isolation for those
within.
Protection for the minds,
they said.
A preserving of the soul
and spirit.

Unrest festered.

Hush,
they said.

Discontent rankled in
the midst.

Silence,
they ordered.

But the masses stirred and moved
and whispered

and the wall came down.
